CPRAM Company Limited (CPRAM), a leader in the ready-to-eat food industry, continues its ‘Sustainable Blue Swimmer Crabs for Thai Sea’ initiative for the 14th consecutive year under its Food 3S approach: Food Safety, Food Security, and Food Sustainability. The project is implemented in collaboration with Surat Thani Province, the Department of Fisheries through the Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center Region 3 (Surat Thani), Viya Crab Products Co., Ltd., the Blue Swimmer Crab Conservation Group (Crab Bank), and local fishermen. More than 200,000 young blue swimmer crabs were released at Koh Sed, Ban Phum Riang, Phum Riang Subdistrict, Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province, bringing the cumulative total to more than 1.8 million crabs. The initiative not only strengthens food security, supports local fisheries, and enhances community income, but also boosts Southern Thailand’s tourism industry by restoring marine ecosystems and ensuring long-term sustainability.

Mr. Bundan Sathirachawal, Vice Governor of Surat Thani Province, said, “The ‘Sustainable Blue Swimmer Crabs for Thai Sea’ project is a collaborative effort across various sectors, including the government, private sector, and local communities, aimed at restoring ecological balance and enhancing the valuable natural resources of Surat Thani Province.Blue swimmer crabs are a vital resource for local fishermen and play an important role in the coastal ecosystem. The release of over 200,000 young crabs today marks a significant step in maintaining the balance and sustainability of Ban Don Bay, while also supporting the local economy in the long term. This project ensures that the natural resources of Surat Thani Province remain abundant and continue to deliver lasting benefits to Thailand’s seas.”

Mr. Wisade Wisidwinyoo, President of CPRAM Company Limited, said, “The ‘Sustainable Blue Swimmer Crabs for Thai Sea’ project, one of the key initiatives underpinning CPRAM’s food security strategy, has been carried out continuously for 14 years through collaboration across the entire supply chain, from upstream to downstream, under our ‘Food 3S’ approach, encompassing Food Safety, Food Security, and Food Sustainability. This project also aims to restore balance to Thailand’s marine ecosystem and promote long-term food security and sustainability by releasing young blue swimmer crabs at the Young Crab stage – the optimal phase with a high survival rate – into the sea around Koh Sed in Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province. Since its inception, more than 1.8 million crabs have been released. CPRAM is a ready-to-eat food producer that remains committed to conducting business for the benefit of Thai society under good governance, delivering high-quality food to consumers while creating shared value for society. This aligns with the Three-Benefit Principle of Charoen Pokphand Group, which prioritizes creating value for the nation, the people, and the organization.”
The ‘Sustainable Blue Swimmer Crabs for Thai Sea’ project has continued for 14 years, making a meaningful impact in the Phum Riang Bay–Koh Sed area of Surat Thani Province. Rich in seagrass, with suitable salinity levels and favorable geographical conditions, the area provides an ideal environment for nurturing young blue swimmer crabs. It also serves as a case study in CPRAM’s end-to-end supply chain management under the Food 3S approach. Stakeholders across the value chain, from upstream to downstream, include local fishermen, Viya Crab Products Co., Ltd. (a crab meat supplier), CPRAM (a food producer), consumers, and the Department of Fisheries through the Coastal Aquaculture Research and Development Center Region 3 (Surat Thani), which provides academic support to ensure effective conservation and the sustainable development of blue swimmer crab fisheries in Thailand’s seas.
Over the past 14 years of the “Sustainable Blue Swimming Crab for Thai Seas” project, CPRAM reflects its position as a ready-to-eat food producer that reaffirm its commitment to consumers, natural resources, the environment, and its strategic partners. The company has continuously conducted its business alongside society in a mutually supportive manner, grounded in the belief that delivering high-quality, safe food must go hand in hand with responsible environmental stewardship in a sustainable manner, for the health and well-being of all.
